# Pen tool

> Draw paths with corners and curves, extend open paths, and add points on segments.

Press `P` for **Pen**.

## Draw

* **Click** — add a corner point.
* **Click-drag** — pull out handles for a curve.
* Start in empty space to begin a new path.
* Click another open endpoint to **join** paths, or the opposite end of the same path to **close** it.
* Click an open end to **continue** that path.
* Press `Enter` or `Escape` to finish an open path and return to selection.

Undo and redo while drawing keep the pen attached to the restored endpoint.

## On existing geometry

* With **Pen**, click a **segment** to add a point.
* Click a point between the endpoints to remove it and reconnect its neighbors.
* `Delete` or `Backspace` removes a selected point and its adjacent segments.
* `Shift + Delete` or `Shift + Backspace` removes selected points and reconnects their neighbors.

## Tip

`⌘/Ctrl + J` joins two selected open endpoints with a straight segment.
