# Errors and troubleshooting

> Find what to do when an import, edit, save, or export fails.

Choose the action you were taking, or use **Help** beside the message in Libre.

## Source file cannot open

If Libre offers **Download source** for a document it cannot display, download it before leaving.

For a rejected `.libre.json` file, try another backup or a [saved version](/docs/save/autosave-and-restore.md#recover-an-earlier-version). If the file came from Libre and still fails, send the error message to [support](mailto:hello@velrabe.space).

For Lottie JSON and other formats, follow the [import instructions](/docs/get-started/import-artwork.md#if-an-import-does-not-work).

## Copy and paste

If the browser blocks clipboard access, allow it for Libre and repeat the action. You can also try `⌘/Ctrl + C` and `⌘/Ctrl + V` with the editor focused.

## Editing

For a locked-layer message, unlock the layer and its parent groups in **Layers**. For a zero-scale message, [choose another frame or restore the scale](/docs/canvas/transform.md#zero-scale).

Follow the guide for the action: [edit vectors](/docs/shapes/edit-vectors.md), [group or mask layers](/docs/canvas/groups-and-depth.md), or [morph shapes](/docs/animation/morphing.md). If a review dialog says the document changed, close it and start the action again with the current selection.

## Pick a color

Select a shape or open a color picker, then press `I` and choose a color. If the eyedropper fails, enter the color value in the color picker.

## Animation limits

If Libre reaches a layer or keyframe limit, split the artwork between documents or remove unneeded layers and keys. If repeated motion is too complex to process, shorten it or reduce the repeats.

If pasted keyframes or transitions would extend beyond the timeline limit, move the playhead earlier and paste again. See [Timeline](/docs/animation/timeline.md) to adjust timing and duration.

## Library and versions

* **An animation will not open:** check that you are signed in to its owner's account. If it is in **Trash**, restore it first.
* **Opening, renaming, or duplicating fails:** check your connection and try again. A cloud file needs a connection to load on this device.
* **A duplicate did not open in a new tab:** find it in the library. Allow pop-ups for Libre to open future copies automatically.
* **An earlier version is needed:** follow [Recover an earlier version](/docs/save/autosave-and-restore.md#recover-an-earlier-version).

Before deleting a project, wait for its animations to finish saving. Deleting the project moves them to **My animations**.

## Service unavailable

Check your connection and try again later. If the problem continues, send the action, error message, and approximate time to [support](mailto:hello@velrabe.space).

## Page not found

Check the address, or return to [Studio](https://libre.velrabe.space/studio). For a shared animation, ask the owner to send a new link.

## Administrator forms

> Sign in with an administrator account. If another window changed the data, refresh the form before editing again.
>
> * **A save was not confirmed:** reopen the form and check the value before retrying. For a payment, check whether the invoice is already recorded.
> * **A value was rejected:** check the field named in the message and the selected period.
> * **A showcase upload failed:** provide both the Libre source and preview, each no larger than **20 MB**. Each environment supports **30 examples**.
