# Import artwork or an animation

> Open a Libre source or import SVG, Figma vectors, images, and supported Lottie files.

Choose **Import** in the library. In the editor, you can also drop supported files or paste SVG and copied Figma vectors with `⌘/Ctrl + V`.

| Format | What you can import |
| - | - |
| Libre source (`.libre.json`, or a Libre document in `.json`) | An editable animation, opened as a new library entry. |
| Lottie JSON (`.json`) | Supported animation features. Embed image assets before importing. |
| dotLottie (`.lottie`) | A package containing one animation and its image assets. |
| SVG (`.svg` or pasted SVG) | Vector artwork, added to the open animation. Libre starts an animation if none is open. |
| PNG, JPEG, WebP | An image you can move, animate, and apply effects to. Animated images become a static frame. |
| Copied Figma vectors | Supported vector artwork pasted into the animation. |

TGS, MP4, and WebM are [export formats](/docs/export/export-lottie.md); they cannot be imported as editable animations.

> [accordion] File size and format limits
>
> | Input | Limit |
> | - | - |
> | Libre source or Lottie JSON | 32 MB per file |
> | dotLottie | 32 MB compressed, 64 MB unpacked, 256 files in the archive, one animation |
> | SVG | 3 million characters |
> | Images | 6 MB per image, 16 megapixels (16,777,216 pixels), 8,192 pixels per side |
>
> An image must also fit the 6 MB limit after Libre prepares it for embedding. Lottie import does not support 3D, time remapping, or per-character text animation. Lottie JSON needs embedded images; dotLottie can also include them in its archive.
>
> File limits above use 1,048,576 bytes per MB. The separate [cloud document limit](/docs/save/autosave-and-restore.md#cloud-document-size) is 10,000,000 bytes for the whole saved document.

## Images in a saved document

Images stay embedded in Libre source, Lottie JSON, and dotLottie exports. Telegram TGS excludes images; see [TGS requirements](/docs/export/export-lottie.md#telegram-tgs-requirements).

## If an import does not work

* **Lottie:** remove the unsupported feature named in the message in the source app, then export again with image assets included. For a dotLottie package with several animations, export only the one you need.
* **SVG:** convert unsupported artwork to vector paths in the source app, or import a smaller selection. If a review opens, compare the original and result before choosing **Insert**. If the file cannot be read, export it again from the source app.
* **Figma:** copy fewer shapes, or use **Copy as SVG** in Figma and paste the SVG.
* **Images:** reduce the file size or pixel dimensions, then import again.
* **Import timed out:** simplify the artwork or split it into smaller files.

If Libre reports that the imported document is too large to save, see [Cloud document size](/docs/save/autosave-and-restore.md#cloud-document-size).
