# Export animations

> Preview and download Lottie, dotLottie, video, or a Telegram TGS sticker.

## Preview and download

1. Open the animation and choose **Export**.
2. Play the preview for your format and compare it with the editor reference.
3. Review any compatibility changes or requirements, then choose the download button.

Export uses the document's duration. To change it, deselect layers and edit **Seconds** in the **Animation** panel. Check the downloaded animation in its destination player; support for effects and other features varies.

## Export or preview fails

* **A preview fails:** reopen **Export** and try again. If one player cannot show an effect, compare the other previews and their listed changes. **Lottie Light** does not render effects.
* **Export times out or reaches a resource limit:** reduce the canvas size, shorten the animation, or simplify the artwork.
* **Image-fill tiles are too complex:** increase the tile scale to reduce the number of copies. For complex tiles or stroke animation, try video.
* **Video encoding fails:** reduce the size or duration, then export again. See [Video limits](#video-limits).

## Choose a format

| Format | Use it for | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| Lottie JSON (`.json`) | Animation in Lottie players | Some features are approximated. Compare the renderer previews. |
| dotLottie (`.lottie`) | A compressed animation package | Includes image assets; needs a dotLottie-compatible player. |
| MP4 (`.mp4`) | H.264 video with a solid background | Uses the frame background color; a transparent background becomes black. Odd dimensions are padded to even dimensions. |
| WebM (`.webm`) | VP8 video with optional transparency | Enable **Transparent frame background** for transparency. This format is not a Telegram video-sticker preset. |
| Telegram TGS (`.tgs`) | A vector sticker for Telegram | Follow the [TGS requirements](#telegram-tgs-requirements). |

Keep an editable backup with [Download source](/docs/save/autosave-and-restore.md#back-up-and-reopen-the-source). Playback exports can simplify editor features.

## Video limits

Video is rendered on your device. The encoder loads the first time you export video; keep the tab open until the download is ready. Use **Cancel export** to stop rendering.

* **Maximum size:** 4,096 pixels per side.
* **Maximum total pixels:** 250 million across all frames, calculated as width × height × frame count after any output padding.

Reduce the size or duration if you exceed these limits. If your browser runs out of resources within them, try a smaller animation.

## Telegram TGS requirements

* Use a **512 × 512** canvas and a duration of **at most 3 seconds**. Export uses **60 FPS**.
* The compressed file must fit **64 KB**. Simplify paths or animation if it is too large.
* Keep all artwork, including strokes, inside the canvas throughout the animation.
* Review excluded features: images, masked groups and their contents, effects, Auto Orient, gradient strokes, and transformed gradients. Text becomes outlines.

When changes are listed, review them before choosing **Export TGS with listed changes**. Your Libre document stays unchanged. Check the loop and playback in Telegram.

## Frame and workspace backgrounds

Deselect layers to open the **Animation** panel. **Frame background** and **Transparent frame background** control the exported background. **Canvas background** changes only the workspace color, including what you see behind a transparent frame.
